This is exactly why I prefer working with small companies - fewer cooks in the kitchen to mess it up!

Thanks, Kimley! Fewer cooks can help, though, as commenters on that post and some linked pointed out, Apple manages to come up with clean, appealing, user-friendly design despite being a big company with multiple stakeholders and small companies don't always benefit from having fewer resources.

I think the key ingredient is to have a consumer focus at all times in a company regardless of size. I understand the response from the AA designer, Mr. X but if your customers are telling you that your design is stopping them from buying from you and creating a negative brand image and that isn't your number one priority in driving design (or any other aspect of business), that, not size, bureaucracy or layers is your biggest problem.
