What better way to celebrate Valentine's Day - or any day - than to show and share some love? In that spirit I offer some ideas on how you can spread the love.
1. Susan Getgood is a clever and creative marketing consultant who blogs at Marketing Roadmaps and who is leading a charity auction of celebrity photos taken at the Sundance Film Festival this year. In addition to getting a wonderful portrait of a celebrity, winning bidders also get an HP printer. HP is sponsoring the auction and the proceeds benefit Habitat for Humanity and their efforts to rebuild housing in the Gulf Coast post-Katrina.
I had the pleasure of meeting Susan last year at BlogHer. She is a bundle of positive energy and a natural leader so I am not at all surprised to see this fantastic effort from her. Also, Habitat for Humanity is one of my favorite charities - I have helped build three Habitat homes and it is rewarding beyond belief. Here is your chance to show love for a cool participating celebrity, show love for someone you know who is a fan buy snagging the photo for them, show love for HP for sponsoring such a worthwhile event, show love for Susan for making it a success, show love for Habitat for Humanity, show love for hurricane victims, and show love for blogging as a tool for good.
UPDATE: Susan Getgood kindly points out that the auction effort is spearheaded by Karen Davidson Cage - check the comments for Susan's note as well as an intro and hello from Karen. Very nice to meet you Karen - thanks for the wonderful event!
2. Denise Wakeman shares on her blog, Next Level Biz Tips, the story of Olympic speed skating gold medalist, Joey Cheek. Joey is donating his $25,000 USOC gold medal bonus to a charity called Right To Play "Creating a healthier and safer world for children through the power of sport and play." Denise challenges readers to match Joey's donation. Wouldn't a gift in the name of your favorite sports nut be a truly unique and special gift? Show love for sport, for the Olympics, for Joey Cheek, for Denise and blogging for getting the word out and especially for the kids of the world who just want to play.
3. In their monthly newsletter, Springwise points to a South African singer who is creating a unique business model. Verity asks fans to pre-purchase her CD and then will use the funds to record the CD and gives supporters a chance to vote on which songs she should record. Also, she is donating 10% of her profits to a South African charity called POWA (People Opposing Women Abuse) which assists women who have been victims of abuse. Thus, for less than $25 you can get a CD which you can honestly say you were one of the producers of and you could vote for Verity to include a song that you feel best expresses your feelings for your sweetie and then present them with the finished CD. Show love for Verity, for innovative business models, for Springwise, for blogging (Verity has a blog), and for the women of South Africa.
4. In a special "marketing from the heart" edition, the Marketing Profs weekly newsletter is chock-full of ideas from marketers on how you can show your consumers love. So this Valentine's Day why not think about how you are going to show your consumers the love. It's probably one of the best gifts you can give your business and yourself.
