Maria, I love this post. I agree with all the points you make: seeing the variety of individuals who can be the vessels, if you will, of our common interests and goals is so powerful. It's as though we end up convincing ourselves, more as a group than as individuals, as to just what we can accomplish when we think both with what matters most to us, but also about the kind of place we want to live in and create as well. Maybe all these things together help us overcome the fear that can come with the unknown or unfamiliar.

Also - you can bet I'm heading to the UNebraska research. :)
